OPPO today flaunted its third-gen under-display camera solution driving the internet into a frenzy. The new under-display camera stands on the foundation laid by OPPO including previous models and brings better selfie camera performance and distraction-free viewing into action.
It was always a sticky wicket for companies to discover a way to do away with the now routine notch and hole-punch for the selfie camera. While some companies were able to concoct a pop-up camera design with a full screen experience, it seemed to contribute to greater mobile weight and brought moving parts that could malfunction due to dust build-up or other reasons. Earlier, ZTE had released Axon 20 and Axon 30 with under-screen selfie cameras, but users complained of poor image quality and their inability to completely hide the sensor.
In the opinion of Oppo, users should notice “almost no visual difference between the [under-screen camera] area and the rest of the screen during everyday use, creating a much more immersive visual experience.”
Oppo demoed an under-display camera back at MWC Shanghai in 2019. We have heard virtually nothing from the Chinese company since, but today the President of Oppo China has suddenly revealed the company will reveal its second-generation solution today, August 4
