Facebook's flourishing business is predominantly digital ads. Nevertheless, hardware ambitions beyond VR also form a component. CEO Mark Zuckerberg, revealed that the next product release would be a pair of smart glasses from Ray-Ban.
It was back in 2017 that we heard about Facebook’s AR glasses for the first time. This will be the first product release from the social media giant’s work in the futuristic glasses department. However, Facebook is also not calling it AR glasses, referring to the fact that it doesn’t let users overlay digital objects onto the real environment. They instead advocate calling it ‘smart glasses’. No details were announced about the smart glasses except Zuckerberg saying it will “let you do some pretty neat things”.
Reportedly, Facebook’s smart glasses inc,use features of taking calls, displaying information and live-streaming their vantage point. The report additionally mentions that these glasses had the full potential of replacing smartphones.
Zuckerberg further remarked that the launch of these Ray-Ban glasses incorporated Facebook’s “journey towards full augmented reality glasses in the future.”
